Carbon Calculation methods

Blue Ventures Carbon Offset will calculate your carbon footprint for a range of different activities:

  • For flights, we calculate a standard value of CO² emitted for every kilometre travelled by plane, and a standard take-off and landing carbon cost.  We calculate how much carbon you would directly be responsible for emitting. The conversion factors that we use are from the DEFRA's 2008 passenger transport report, available here.  Flights are calculated based on economy seating.
  • For life, business, and other travel offsets we follow government guidance and assumptions out lined here



Quality assurance

Be assured that your offset will only be made by projects that are additional and independently verified. Audits are conducted annually by a third party verifier. All monitoring information will be assessed and reported to all those funding the programme on a quarterly basis.
