Our Motivation

Blue Ventures Carbon Offset is a small company trying to make a big difference.  We are a self-declared not-for-profit that feeds all profit into the charity of Blue Ventures Conservation.  We would love to live in a world where carbon offsetting was not necessary; a world where we all lived sustainably and were responsible for minimal carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.  At BVCO, we know that we need to first and foremost work toward this goal by changing to a less carbon-intensive lifestyle.  However, we acknowledge that this sort of change will not come quickly and easily, and we furthermore recognise the need to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions globally in the short term.  

BVCO is driven by:

• A motivation to invest as much as possible in improving the livelihoods of resource dependent communities in developing countries; especially in Africa.
• A drive to help those that are most affected by climate change to adapt to it.
• A need for transparency in how carbon offset money is being used.
• A desire to increase awareness of the link between air travel, climate change, and coral reef degradation.
• The need to combat climate change through emissions reductions beyond efficiency savings.
• A desire to help others to reduce their carbon emissions.

Addressing the carbon footprint first:
BVCO is committed to combating climate change by reducing emissions through efficiency and lifestyle changes before offsetting through our projects. We are committed to making carbon footprint reductions first. See our carbon services here.

Working only for community based projects:
BVCO brings practical benefits beyond reducing carbon emissions. The community energy projects that we undertake tangibly improve the quality of life of those we work with. For example, our energy efficient stove and solar stove programme in Madagascar reduces fuel costs for villagers by four times.

Connecting people to the funded project:
All organisations and individuals that offset or onset with BVCO will be kept in touch with the project their money has been used to support. They receive quarterly newsletters on the project and the people that it helps.

Creating true carbon savings through independent projects:
Our projects reduce carbon dioxide emissions that otherwise would not be mitigated. They always make an additional benefit to the community or the environment.

Being a not-for-profit organisation:
BVCO is a small not-for-profit organisation that directly manages its carbon offset programme through community energy projects and provides energy management consultancy services. We transfer all profits into our offsetting schemes and provide a friendly, personal and memorable service from first contact to renewal.

Providing permanent CO₂ reductions:
BVCO does not invest in any project that has uncertain carbon reductions, or whose success cannot be measured over an appropriate length of time.

Verification:Our projects are verified through the Tourism Industry Carbon Offset (TICOS) service.
