The contributions provided by TAC's travellers are put towards this solar stove and fuel efficient stove programme in West Madagascar - not only reducing carbon dioxide emissions but helping communities by providing environmental, economic and social benefits.
The project will replicate an existing, and highly successful, solar stove and energy efficient stove programme in Andavadoaka, south west Madagascar. The new centre site is in Morondava, a town situated on the west coast of Madagascar. The project will be managed by BVCO and Association pour le Développement de l'Energie Solaire (ADES) partnership.
ADES has identified Morondava as an area with considerable potential for stove dissemination. The support of the Adventure Company will now enable this project to begin.
Funding from TAC will enable the centre to distribute: 200 solar box ovens, between 50 solar parabolic stoves and between 50 ‘yoyo’ stoves (energy efficient stove). The funding of these stoves, to be distributed from 2008, will be assured for three years. The funding will fund for ongoing monitoring, repairs and replacements as necessary.
The programme is based on the same reasons identified in the Andavadoaka programme methodology, and works to change cooking habits from the use of 3 stone open fires to solar stoves and fuel efficient stoves.
